DID YOU KNOW?...

Egge is a sponsor of Wheel Stander Danny O'Day?

Danny O'Day will be running the Egge Speed Shop sticker on his 34 Roadster Wheelstander at NHRA and Pinks All Out exhibitions throughout the year.

After drag racing as a hobby for many years and running my shop, [ Danny's Auto Body ], I decided to get into a faster and possibly a pro class. Looking at the cost of running in the alcohol funny cars quickly cured me of that idea.Costs fueled by rapid advancements in clutches, blowers, tires and the need for lots of r&d were well above my means. The exhibition cars seemed to be a way for me to feed my passion and possibly get some pay back along the way.Wheelstands in my bracket car and on my hot rod Honda motorcyle led to my choosing to build a wheelstander. I got to build the blower motor that always lit my fire and enjoy the thrill of 150 mph runs on 2 wheels.
The first " car " was a ranchero pickup with a 477 cu in blown alcohol Ford engine in the bed with a big wind up key that spun around on the back like a windup toy : The Windup Pickup was an instant hit . Our second year out we did 36 shows !
By 1994 I had built 2 more cars and the newest one , a Lumina funny car rewarded me with the quickest wheelstand run ever at the Indy nationals for 40,000 screaming fans.
From that time to the present I have had the record ,steadily lowering it to a crazy 8.56 second 153 mph pass at Pinks All Out in Memphis this spring with the 34 Ford roadster.
Our average season now we try for 25 shows. We have Pinks All Out at Concord N.C. & Reading PA. ,NHRA Nationals at Bristol TN & Concord N.C. ,Ihra Nationals at Epping NH, June, July & August Nite of Thrills shows at Epping, Flashback Friday nostalga show at Beaver Springs PA ,Nite of Fire at Englishtown NJ and Hot August Nites at Maple Grove PA.

Each Box of Egge Pistons are Balanced?

In an effort to make your classic car run it's best we weigh each run of pistons and match up the closest set for each box that goes out. We strive to match each set within 8 grams of each other, but in most cases they measure under 5 grams difference from the lightest piston to the heaviest. We take this step in our quality assurance department to deliver the best product for your classic car.

Egge Experts are Enthusiasts Like You?

Brandon Redmon, machinist, recently took his 1970 Mark Donohue Javelin out to Willow Springs to run the car through the paces. Here is his words on the event:

The car is a 1970 AMC " Mark Donohue" Javelin one of 2500 built. It has been in the family since it was purchased new by my grandparents at Ricker Motors ( then at the 5 points in Whittier). My mother used to drive the car when she was in high school. As I was doing some checking on the VIN number, the car was built on March 15, 1970 exactly sixteen years before I was born. It came originally with a 360 c.i. AMC engine connected to a Borg-Warner T-10 three speed automatic transmission. The car was repainted back in 1971 because some antifreeze was spilled on the hood and fenders, but it is the factory paint. The interior was redone in 1990 with factory vinyl. It may not be stock but that's how it would look from the factory. After multiple rebuilds of the rear end, the decision was made to put in a Ford 9" as a replacement. In 2005, the crankshaft broke in the 360 so it now has a 401 AMC motor put in with a 727 Torqueflite transmission and a Hurst shift kit.

In 2008 my father and I took the car up to Willow Springs and it did very well for the technology of its day. Other cars that were there were 2006 and newer Chevrolet Corvette Z06's, a couple of Porches, and some Japanese imports. We were taking it around the track with little experience in road courses but it was able to hold its own. Considering we were the only Trans-Am era car there it felt like a throw back to the Trans-Am races in the late 60's to early 70's which is a feeling I cannot describe.

The Javelin gets driven just about every weekend to various car shows, usually 5 a month, 4 small shows like the Doughnut Derelicts in Huntington Beach and one big show like the Bellflower or Uptown Whittier show. With most shows it is the only AMC and it attracts a lot of attention because its not a vehicle from The Big Three ( GM, Ford and Mopar).
